A Weekend With The Grandparents

Monday, 18. January 2010 8:21

This weekend my wife and I got a visit from her grandparents. Three years ago we moved across country, meaning that her grandparents were no longer an eight hour drive from our house; they were an eight hour flight. Obviously, visiting them has been very difficult and we haven’t been able to see them as much as we’d like. However, this weekend they came to us. For their anniversary they decided to go on a cross-country road trip. On their trip they have visited friends and family in four states, with two more stops planned along the way. We never spend time with them without playing a game of some sort, and this weekend was no exception. In fact, it seemed like we were trying to make up for lost time. We played games for hours on end. But, as is always the case, time flies when you’re having fun. All too soon the weekend was over and the grandparents were heading on to their next destination. Three years was too long of a wait to see them, I hope it won’t be that long next time.

Not The Same Old Chicken

Fried Chicken - breasts. I used Drake's Cripsy...
Image via Wikipedia

We had some bone-in chicken breasts and a package of Oven Fry coating mix, so I decided to make spicy oven fried chicken. I started by taking the skin off the chicken and throwing some beer on them, which I got from the keg refrigerator. I then sprinkled a decent amount of Tabasco sauce on each piece and rubbed it in. I allowed the chicken and Tabasco to marinate in the refrigerator for half an hour. I then coated the chicken and baked in a 400 degree oven for 45 minutes. It came out crispy on the outside, but juicy and spicy on the inside. We were sorry we couldn’t eat the bones, too.
